FAQ
Mold questions San Diego homeowners actually ask
Costs, timelines, insurance, black mold and what a clearance test proves — answered plainly by a company that only works on mold.
Common questions
- How much does a mold inspection cost in San Diego County?
- Mold Safe Solutions provides a free mold assessment to determine whether testing is warranted. Full inspections with independent laboratory sampling are quoted upfront based on property size and the number of samples collected. Call 619-332-3204 for a price before you book anything.
- How do I know if I actually have mold?
- The most reliable indicators are a persistent musty odor, visible staining or growth, a history of water intrusion, and symptoms that improve when occupants leave the building. None of those confirm mold on their own, which is why an inspection measures moisture and, when justified, samples the air.
- How long does mold remediation take?
- A single-room project is often one to three days including drying. Multi-room or whole-house projects take longer, and structural drying targets — not the calendar — determine when a space is ready to close up.
- Do I need to leave my home during remediation?
- Usually not. Containment and negative air pressure isolate the work area from the rest of the property. Occupants with severe mold sensitivity, and projects that involve central HVAC, are the common exceptions.
- Does homeowners insurance cover mold?
- It depends on the cause. Sudden, accidental water events are frequently covered while long-term seepage and deferred maintenance usually are not. Our documentation — photos, moisture readings and independent lab results — is exactly the evidence carriers request.
- Is black mold more dangerous than other mold?
- Stachybotrys chartarum, commonly called black mold, produces mycotoxins, but many molds affect health and color alone does not identify a species. Laboratory analysis identifies what is actually present. Any indoor mold growth on a wet material should be removed regardless of color.
- Can I just spray bleach on it?
- Bleach removes the stain, not the growth. On porous materials like drywall and wood it leaves the root structure intact and adds water. Contaminated porous material has to be physically removed inside containment.
- Why does mold keep coming back after removal?
- Because the water source was never corrected. Remediation performed before the leak, drainage problem or humidity issue is fixed always fails. Locating the moisture source is the first step of every job we take.
- Do you test air quality as well as mold?
- Yes. Beyond spore counts we can test for mycotoxins, VOCs, allergens, bacteria and ERMI dust analysis, and we perform EMF and RF testing on request for whole-environment assessments.
- Can you provide documentation for a landlord or legal dispute?
- Yes. Our standard report includes photographs, sampling locations, meter readings and the third-party laboratory results, which is the evidence these disputes are decided on. Tenants can hire us directly.
- Which cities do you serve?
- All of San Diego County — San Diego, La Jolla, Del Mar, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, Escondido, Poway, Fallbrook, Solana Beach, Rancho Santa Fe, Coronado, Chula Vista, La Mesa, El Cajon, Santee, Spring Valley and Ramona — plus Orange, Riverside and Los Angeles counties.
- How fast can you come out?
- Same-day and next-day appointments are usually available countywide. If you have active water intrusion, call 619-332-3204 now rather than waiting; mold can begin growing within 24 to 48 hours.
